Ole! Singapore Ole!
Well finally. Cant really believe it still but we have won the tiger cup again. After 6 long years of waiting, somehow, we have won it. A team that was underestimated and thought to be joining the games for experience has gone thru all that was thrown at them and emerged victorious.
sorry, cant find a better picture
Anyway, I had wanted to troop down to the National Stadium but didnt had the coveted tickets. So i had to make do with joining a bunch of people at carnavale at chijmes. Cant say its as exciting as the Man U vs Liverpool game but at least the players were playing well. Nice passing and shooting especially that by Indra. At least it wasnt like the 'just punt the ball up and someone will chase' mantra that players seem to have last time.
But i have come to notice something. Isnt it strange that hardly anyone bothered to support the national team when they were in the group stages? And we only had half the stadium filled when Myanmar came visiting. But curiously enough, fans suddenly popped up and thronged the National Stadium like it was business as usual. Were they fair-weather fans or the die-hard true supporters of the Singapore Lions? Die-hard? Or the revived die-heart?
I remember going with my friend Eugene to watch the Man U vs Singapore game a few years back. I was surprised cos everyone was in red. Man Utd red. Every flick and dummy, every feint and shimmy by the United players were met by screams of adulation but good plays by the Lions were met with subdued applause. I mean, i love Man U too, but its our national team man. They need our support too. I remember going wild with delight when Indra scored against United. Well hopefully with this win, the Lions will finally gain the admiration and support the team so rightly deserves.
